The holocaust of the Supreme

spiritofnow (spiritofnow) wrote, @ 2006-11-14 10:25:00 Why Amputees Are God The problem with Marshall Brain's (the otherwise pretty brilliant guy behind How Stuff Works) Why Does God Hate Amputees? site is that, more than attacking the concept of God, it attacks the dignity of congenital amputees. The idea seems to be that congenital amputees are so disadvantaged and live such a horrible existence that we should all feel sorry for them and get angry at the non-existence of a God that doesn't heal them. Which is the sort of neuroticism that is part of the problem rather than the solution.
Of course, I understand his point. His attacks on fundamentalist and exoteric religion are well-received. And the notion of a God up in the heavens, separate from the universe, who people constantly beg for help rather than taking responsibility, is of course both pointless and quite often dangerous. But this is not my God. My God is Love, and suffers all hardships sweetly. The evolution of the universe is, in Sri Aurobindo's words, the holocaust of the Supreme.
